Elizabeth, New Jersey


Elizabeth is located in Union County and is New Jersey’s fourth largest and safest city and is bordered by Hillside, Union, Roselle Park, Roselle, Linden, and Newark.  With approximately 125,000 residents, Elizabeth has an area of 13.4 square miles.  The city is home to the largest industrial seaport in North America as well as Newark Liberty International Airport.  Elizabeth is also New Jersey’s largest Urban Enterprise Zone with a city-wide sales tax rate of 3.5%.  In 2008, Popular Science magazine named Elizabeth one of “America’s 50 Greenest Cities.”  Elizabeth has easy access to major highways including Route’s 1&9, Route 278, and the New Jersey Turnpike.  Elizabeth is also a short ride away from New York Penn Station via the North Jersey Coast Line and Northeast Corridor Line. Elizabeth provides a unique variety of distinct neighborhoods offering something for everyone. 


Elizabeth''s Neighborhoods:


Located in the western part of the city, Bayway contains many affordable two to four family homes as well as many apartment complexes.  The Bayway section offers convenient access to the New Jersey Turnpike as well as the Goethals Bridge.  Bayway is also the home to Mattano Park and the Erxleben Recreation Center with a range of activities including a baseball field, soccer field, basketball court, playground, running track, skate park, tennis courts, and picnic area.


Elizabethport features a collection of old-world Elizabeth, new America, and a mix of colonial-style houses and apartment buildings that stretch east of Routes 1&9 to its shores.  The revitalized Marina waterfront is full of new developments including townhouses and businesses.


The Elmora section of Elizabeth has a mix of two to four family homes bordering Roselle and Linden.  Elizabeth’s Elmora section is home to some of the finest shops, boutiques, and restaurants in the city.

Elmora Hills:

Elmora Hills is considered Elizabeth’s most prestigious neighborhood and is home to some of Elizabeth’s most charming properties.  The properties on Elmora Hills’ quiet, tree-lined streets include colonials, split-levels, and new constructions.

Frog Hollow:

Located just west of Elizabethport, Frog Hollow contains a small community of older homes, new constructions, and rental properties.

Keighry Head:

Keighry Head is a community located close to Midtown with a mix of one and two family homes and apartment buildings.  This section boasts convenient access to the Midtown shopping district and transportation.    


Also known as Uptown, the Midtown section of Elizabeth is its main commercial district.  This lively area offers its residents a range of shopping, dining, and entertainment options to choose from.  Located in Midtown is Elizabeth’s train station which is a short ride away from New York Penn Station via the North Jersey Coast Line and the Northeast Corridor Line.

North Elizabeth:

The North Elizabeth section contains a mix of one and two family homes as well as many apartment buildings and condominium units.  The North Elizabeth train station also has service to New York Penn Station via the North Jersey Coast Line and the Northeast Corridor Line.  


Located just south of Elizabeth Avenue, the Peterstown section has many affordable housing opportunities.  Peterstown is the home of historic Union Square which features produce stands, meat markets, and various other shops.  This area is also the home to the Peterstown Community Center which has many activities for seniors, adults, and children.


Bordering Hillside, the Westminster section is home to many distinctive properties including Tudors, Victorians, colonials, split-levels, and ranches.  This area is steps away from recreational areas including Phil Rizzuto Park with activities including a soccer field, fitness trail, picnic area, and playground.
